Adoptions on the rise for CASA kids
ALBION – Social distancing requirements, in light of the COVID pandemic, has forced many volunteers and staff members at Northeastern Indiana CASA to look for unconventional ways to advocate for the children they serve.
The nonprofit works to advocate for children in five area counties who are in the judicial system. Taking time to visit the child’s home and school is part of the job, one that’s been limited due to the pandemic. However, staff members and volunteers have adapted to make sure every child they serve knows they are not alone and that their CASA is standing beside them — virtually or at a distance of at least six feet. Volunteers have been Face-timing, calling, texting and sending letters and cards to make sure kids are safe and as okay as they can be right now.

Cool marks one year as CASA leader
ALBION – It’s been one year since Kirby Cool took on the role as Northeastern Indiana CASA’s executive director. Cool filled the position when long-time director Kristi Bachman retired after 13 years. There were “big shoes to fill,” as Cool put it when interviewed about her new title a year ago. However, she came at the new position with a clear goal- to move the nonprofit forward.
In a volunteer banquet held last week, Cool addressed the crowd with a vote of thanks for the support she’s received during her first year.
