It's Summertime And We're Celebrating!

Adoptions on the rise for CASA kids

Although the COVID crisis has slowed down some traditional methods of serving children, Northeastern Indiana CASA’s results have escalated. Since March, 10 children have been adopted, and Executive Director Brooke Griggs says that’s something to celebrate.

“This is a big number for us, especially given the extenuating circumstances we’re dealing with,” Griggs said. “It’s something for us to get excited about because not only do these kids have a forever home, an adoption means their court case closes. It gives the kid a chance to just be a kid and not feel the tension or apprehension of a court case. It’s a win for us and a win for them.”

SAVE THE DATE!

Palooza rescheduled for September

We are all reeling in this time of ever-evolving news and updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus has interrupted all of our lives and our daily activities. Here at our office, we have had to adapt as well to this crisis. This meant taking a look at our previously scheduled CASA Palooza.

With the state-mandated closures and the uncertainty of when these mandates may lift, we have decided to postpone Palooza until Thursday, Sept. 10th. at Sylvan Cellars.

Tickets will go on sale at the end of July so stay tuned!

Northeastern Indiana CASA is currently hiring for a Staff Guardian Ad Litem -

The role of the Staff GAL is separate and distinct from that of a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer. Appointment of a CASA volunteer remains the preferred model of providing an advocate for abused and neglected children, and it is the goal that every child in a dependency proceeding be appointed a CASA volunteer. When that is not possible, however, appointment of a Staff Guardian ad Litem (GAL) to serve as the child’s advocate may occur.

The Staff GAL will ensure that children to whom they are appointed receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning. This is regular, full-time (37.50 hours/week) position.
