Volunteer Brunch Honors 2 for Dedicated Service to CASA
Northeast Indiana CASA, a nonprofit advocate for children in the region, recently gathered to celebrate the dedication of two of its volunteers. Nancy Weaver and Kevin Likes have served for five years each as Court Appointed Special Advocates offering a voice for children involved in judicial proceedings.
CASA works to advocate for children’s best interests and to improve their circumstances and quality of life. Volunteers are appointed by judges and work with legal and child welfare professionals, educators and service providers to ensure that judges have the information needed to make an informed decision for the child.
The volunteer brunch brought together CASA’s staff, board of directors, and volunteers to celebrate. Executive Director Bianca Alvarez expressed her gratitude and admiration for Weaver and Like’s service.
"I do have faith that this program will continue to be strong, and it's because of people like you," said Alvarez. "Sometimes we have hearings and different things arise within a day or two notice. You are always flexible and understanding despite these changes."
Northeastern Indiana CASA serves DeKalb, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben and Whitley counties. While the area served is expansive, Alvarez gives credit to her volunteer base for managing the case load.
"If you think about the five counties that we're covering and all the time and dedication that takes, it's amazing what our volunteers do." said Alvarez. “Nancy and Kevin's dedication has not only transformed the lives of countless children but has also inspired others to join the cause. Their five years of tireless service stand as a testament to the positive impact that individuals can make when they commit themselves to a noble mission. Northeast Indiana CASA extends its deepest gratitude to Nancy and Kevin and looks forward to continuing its mission to improve the lives of children with the support of its dedicated volunteers.”
